1、Shopping near kyoto station - Kyoto Station Building  

How to get there?

Take JR Sanin Main Line or JR Tokaido Main Line, get off at Kyoto Station.

Best time to visit: In general, Kyoto shopping has more discounts in mid July or late July and around New Year's Day.

Kyoto Station Building

There are two famous shopping streets in Kyoto Station: Porta and The Cube. The Kyoto Station Building is a complex of transportation and commercial facilities. The underground part is connected to the central hall of the subway. The second floor underground to the first floor of the Kyoto Station Building is a shop area selling Kyoto souvenirs, Kyoto famous snacks, fashionable clothes and crafts, called "The CUBE". ►Porta

Porta

Located at the north exit of Kyoto Station, Porta Underground Street is a very popular underground shopping area near Kyoto Station. Porta is directly connected to JR Station and subway station, so the traffic is very convenient. A variety of boutiques, jewellery stores, gift shops and food are available at Porta Underground Street. This is one of the places that tourists can't miss when shopping in Kyoto.

This is an underground shopping street in the commercial building near JR Kyoto Station, with a wide variety of Kyoto famous products and specialties. Such as Uji tea, Matcha, traditional cosmetics, etc., can be found here.

 

2、Shopping district in Kyoto – Shijo kawaramachi

How to get there?

Take the city bus No.4 or bus No.205 from Kyoto Station and get off at Shijo Kawamachi Station.

Best time to visit: In general, Kyoto shopping has more discounts in mid July or late July and around New Year's Day.

Shijo kawaramachi

Shijo kawaramachi is the most prosperous business district in Kyoto and one of the most famous commercial streets in the Kansai region of Japan. It is located at the intersection of Shijo and Kawaramachi. There are large department stores such as Takashimaya and Ohara Kamachi OPA. There are also many clothing stores, luxury specialty stores, bookstores, and restaurants.

 

3、Shopping street in Kyoto - Nishiki Market

How to get there?

  • a. Take a subway, get off at Shijo Station, then walk for 3 minutes from the station.
  • b. Take Hankyu Line, get off at Uwaru Station,  then walk for 3 minutes from the station.
  • c. Take a city bus, get off at Shijo Takakura Station, then walk for 2 minutes from the station.

Best time to visit: The most lively time in the Nishiki Market is around 16:00 in the evening. Many stores are only open until 18:00.

Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market is a 400-meter-long most representative shopping street located near the Shijo area in the center of Kyoto. There are more than 140 various shops in the street, selling a variety of fresh food and daily necessities as well as a variety of Japanese snacks. It is known as "Kyoto's kitchen."

The shops in the street are antique, especially the famous pickles in Kyoto. You can also try a variety of delicious pickles here. The Nishiki Market is equipped with a rain-proof roof, so shopping is not affected by the weather. Take a walk here, find small gifts, taste Kyoto-style snacks, and feel the atmosphere of Kyoto. These are also a rare experience of food culture.

 

4、Shopping district in Kyoto - Shinkyogoku Shopping District

How to get there?

  • a. Take a subway, get off at Shijo Station, then walk for 10 minutes to the east.
  • b. Take Hankyu Train Kyoto Line,  get off at Kawaramachi Station.

Best time to visit: Shopping here is cheaper than shopping in Osaka and Tokyo.

Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Shinkyogoku Shopping District is the second oldest shopping street in Japan after Nakamise Shopping Street in Asakusa Tokyo. Located near Kawaramachi, Shinkyogoku Shopping District is the largest commercial street in Kyoto. It is a collection of fashion, shoes, bags, jewellery, Kyoto specialty snacks, etc. There are also a variety of restaurants offering not only authentic Kyoto cuisine, but also a number of shops for Western-style cafes and snacks. In addition, there are several temples and shrines, which make this ancient street full of calm and charm.

 

5、Shopping street in Kyoto – Sannenzaka Ninenzaka street

How to get there?

Take a bus, get off at Kiyomizu-dera Station.

Sannenzaka Ninenzaka street

Sannenzaka Ninenzaka street, from the Kiyomizu-dera Temple to Gion, the stone steps along the stone road are traditional wooden houses, which is the oldest street in Kyoto. On the way to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, there are many unique shops, pottery shops, dessert shops, restaurants, tea houses, jewelry stores, etc. Here you can buy a variety of Kyoto specialties, including the famous Shimizu Porcelain.
