Merdeka Square, also known as Dataran Merdeka or Independence Square, attaches great significance to Malaysians. It is located in Jln Raja, City Centre, 50050 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Built in 1961 and finished in 1967, Merdeka Square is one of the largest squares in the world. It witnessed the independence of Malaysia. There is a 95-meter flagpole in the square, which is the tallest flagpole in the world. It was at this flagpole that the flag of Malaysia was first raised in 1957, which means that Malaysia got its freedom.
