The Mandalay Palace is located in the city of Mandalay and is the palace of the last dynasty in Myanmar. The original palace was completely destroyed during World War II. Mandalay Palace that is now seen is the palace that the Myanmar government rebuilt it in 1989 based on historical data. The entire shape of the palace is square. There is a moat and a wall around the palace. It has 4 main entrances and 8 secondary entrances. There are 104 palaces including living rooms of emperor, hall of deliberation of emperor and ministers and the bathing room, etc.. All the palace buildings are constructed of teakwood. The entire building is in red color.

The museum in the palace displays the story of the Burmese dynasty. There are many items, furniture and clothing used by the king. It is a pity that in the palace, there is basically no furniture and furnishings, most of which were also stolen and destroyed during World War II. There are about 120 steps in the watchtower which is made of teakwood. Be careful when going up to the watchtower.

 

How to get to Mandalay Palace?

We can ride a bicycle or rent a rickshaw which costs about 4000 kyats to get around Mandalay Palace. In addition, you can also take a motorcycle which costs about 10,000 kyats to visit the palace.

1、There are many camps of Burmese government troops in the palace. So when visiting Mandalay Palace, you should follow the signs inside.

2、The palace has multiple entrances, but the traveler can only enter and exit from the entrance near 66 streets. There will be soldiers checking the passport at the entrance, be careful not to take pictures of the soldiers.

3、There are many restaurants in the residential area near the southeast and south of the palace. After the meal, you can take a walk along the moat.
