How to get to Lantau Island？

Access to Lantau Island and Tian Tan Buddha from downtown Hong Kong:

Take the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) to Tung Chung Station (Tung Chung Station)

 

• From the main areas of downtown Hong Kong (e.g. Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, etc.), it takes about 30-40 minutes to take the MTR Blue Line (Island Line) or Green Line (Tsuen Wan Line) to Tung Chung Station (Tung Chung Station).

Tung Chung Station is the main transportation hub to Lantau Island.

From Tung Chung Station to Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car Station

 

• From Tung Chung Station, it takes about 5-10 minutes walk to Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car Station.

Take the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car to Ngong Ping Village

 

The Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car is the best option to get from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping Village, and it terminates near the Tian Tan Giant Buddha. You can get off at the cable car terminal and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery.

If you choose the cable car with transparent bottom, the view is more open and you can see more beautiful scenery.

 

Other transportation options:

Bus: If you don't want to take the cable car, you can also choose to take the bus. You can take the buses near MTR Tung Chung Station (e.g. B3, B4, etc.), which go directly to the area of the Tian Tan Buddha. However, the bus ride will take slightly longer than the cable car and you will not be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

Walking route from Tian Tan Buddha to Ngong Ping Village:

Once you arrive at Ngong Ping Village, the Tian Tan Buddha is just around the corner. You only need to walk for about 10 minutes to reach the Buddha statue and there are some small stores and attractions for you to visit along the way.
