Kandy Lake is a huge artificial lake dug from a paddy field, located in the city of Kandy in the central part of Sri Lanka. It is also one of the most famous tourist attractions in Kandy.

There are many beautiful legends about Kandy Lake, which add many mysterious colors to this beautiful lake. Kandy Lake is beautiful, and the lake is covered with tropical flowers and trees. The trees are lush and constitute a natural pergola. All kinds of flowers are blooming; a flat avenue around the lake, the visitor could walk here. The Temple of the Tooth Relic is also located beside Kandy Lake.

What to see at the Kandy Lake

Visitors could enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake while walking, also could see many animals: fish in the water, birds in the sky, monkeys, ducks, lizards and so on. It takes about an hour to visit Kandy Lake. The best time to visit Kandy Lake is in the morning or at nightfall. There is a special viewing platform at the top of the mountain, and the visitors could overlook the lake. The Temple of Tooth Relic is also located by the Kandy Lake. The Temple of the Tooth Relic is a famous Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, and it was built in 1595. Located on the bank of Kandy Lake, the Sakyamuni's tooth relic is enshrined in the temple, which is known as the national treasure of Sri Lanka. It's also a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists. Visitors can feel the peace of mind by watching the blue sky and white clouds and listening to the bell ringing from the temple.
 

How to get to the Kandy Lake

The visitors could take taxi or Tuk-tuk to Kandy Lake, and it takes about15 -20 mins from the Kandy city district.
