History of Cameron Highlands
Cameron Highlands was discovered in 1885 by William Cameron, a British surveyor, and the highlands was named after the surveyor. That’s why it is called Cameron Highlands. In 1925, Duck George Maxwell came to visit the Cameron Highlands and decided to develop it to a summer resort. They finished a road to the Cameron Highlands. After the construction of the road, villas were built on the highlands by the British officials in Malaysia. Some of them settled in the highlands and wanted to develop it. And a permanent British military camp was established here. In 1929, John Archibald Russell, son of the British Viceroy, developed tea plantation in Cameron Highlands. And the BOH Tea is very famous in Malaysia and the world, which is the largest producer of tea in Malaysia. In 1957, Cameron Highlands was handed over to the Malayan federal government for management, and its management has been maintained until now.
